Pro-Life Crusade Challenges Amendment 4 at Florida Colleges

Topics:

From October 21 to October 28, pro-life volunteers with the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) blanketed the state of Florida, urging the public to vote ‘no’ on pro-abortion Amendment 4.

Amendment 4, if it passes, would virtually allow abortion until birth in the state of Florida. To oppose such an immoral measure, TFP Student Action volunteers launched a pro-life crusade that reached nearly every major city in Florida and many college campuses.

We offer our readers this battlefield report, highlighting caravan stops at college campuses.

Abortion Defeated at FIU

At Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, TFP volunteers engaged students in conversation and distributed flyers against Amendment 4.

Many students, including those who consider themselves pro-abortion, were horrified by the extreme goals of the pro-abortion amendment. One man, for instance, went from visible anger with the TFP campaign to total agreement in a few seconds. “Oh, I actually agree with you now. I’m going to vote ‘no’ on this.”

Catholics on campus joined the campaign and prayed with the TFP volunteers. Many FIU students applauded the pro-life crusade.

Debates on Amendment 4 at UCF

More students welcomed TFP at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando.

“I voted ‘no’ because I don’t want to go to the pearly gates and see all the babies I voted against,” said one student. Another added, “I know these guys. This is like a dream!” Happy to meet TFP volunteers in person after watching TFP videos, he continued: “I know Amendment 4 will not pass: we will win!”

Later, two men held a sign reading, “Reproductive Rights.” Knowing they were pro-abortion, I asked them why abortion is called a ‘reproductive right’ when it kills the very thing a mother is reproducing. A debate ensued. And a dozen students surrounded me to listen. Once the abortion arguments failed, two women started screaming in my face. I wanted a civil debate but they didn’t.

Another debate erupted. “All innocent humans have the right to life,” I said, “and if we can’t agree on such a fundamental concept, then we can’t agree on anything.” Most of the crowd nodding in agreement and five students came to shake my hand and thank me for standing my ground.

Pro-Life Action at University of Florida

A Catholic student came to thank us for the TFP campaign. He and his friends went door knocking throughout the state, warning the public against Amendment 4. “[Abortionists] are basically doing human sacrifices to Baal,” he said. “We have to do something about this and we can’t stay quiet!” We gave him a Rosary and prayed together to end abortion in Florida.

Planned Parenthood Generation Action Club was tabling on campus in favor of the amendment. “Would you like to have a civil discussion about Amendment 4?” I asked. “No!” they replied.

But when the Planned Parenthood activists overheard TFP members changing the minds of students who were pro-abortion they rudely asked us to leave the campus.

Obviously, we didn’t leave.

These hostile abortionists were in the minority.

“Thank you so much for what you’re doing!” one lady said. Another student said, “My wife and I are having are first child. This is personal because the baby is 6 months along and kicking. I can’t believe some states allow people to kill the baby.”

The pro-life crusade was successful as TFP volunteers gave out hundreds of flyers and answered many questions about Amendment 4.

Vote ‘No’ on Amendment 4

The positive reactions to the week-long tour of Florida seem to indicate that Amendment 4 will fail. Although universities are usually hotbeds of liberalism, the student bodies at the campuses visited expressed strong disapproval for abortion and the immoral Amendment 4.

Let us pray the Rosary and offer personal sacrifices to God and Our Lady for conversion of America and the restoration of family values in America and the world.
