Premier Catholic University Snubs Church Teaching, Hires Pro-Abortion Homosexual

The University of Notre Dame, the once premier Catholic institution in Indiana, has degraded its identity and mission by extending a job offer to Pete Buttigieg, the open homosexual, pro-abortion politician who lost his presidential bid for the Democratic Party.

On June 25, Notre Dame announced it was hiring Pete Buttigieg as a faculty fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (NDIAS). Baptized Catholic, Buttigieg was educated at a Catholic school, but later left the Catholic Church and chose to “marry” another man in blatant opposition to Church teaching and natural law.

LifeSiteNews reported how the politician invited a 9-year-old boy onto the stage during a campaign rally and encouraged the minor to “come out” as a homosexual in public.

Despite Buttigieg’s actions that have caused public scandal, Meghan Sullivan, director of the Notre Dame’s Institute for Advanced Study (NDIAS) extolled the university’s decision. “I’m thrilled to welcome Pete to the institute and Notre Dame in the coming year,” said Sullivan in Notre Dame News. “More than ever, we need scholars and public leaders working together, generating the insights that will make democratic institutions stronger and advance the common good in creative and evidence-based ways.”

However, advocating for sinful behavior never helps the common good, but rather destroys it. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.’ They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.”

In past years, the university has promoted a pro-LGBT film festival, allowed access to porn on campus, and took down murals honoring Catholic explorer Christopher Columbus.

When Notre Dame students sponsored TFP Student Action volunteers on their campus in 2014 to promote traditional marriage in accordance with Catholic teaching, university officials quickly told the police to shut down TFP's moral values display (see the video).

(Taking a Principled, Not a Personal Stand)

Why is the university, named after the most pure Virgin Mary, “thrilled” to hire a teacher who attacks the sanctity of God’s marriage? How can university officials, including Fr. John Jenkins, agree to hire an individual who favors the killing of innocent preborn babies? Who will answer for the souls that might be lost or led astray by Pete Buttigieg’s immoral example inside Notre Dame’s halls and classrooms?

Writing for First Things, Fr. Wilson D. Miscamble, C.S.C., professor of history at Notre Dame, lamented: “Of course, those familiar with Notre Dame know well that the Buttigieg appointment is more of a piece with Jenkins’s honoring of Barack Obama in 2009 and his awarding of the Laetare Medal (recognizing a distinguished Catholic!) to Joe Biden in 2016.”

The decision to hire Buttigieg, continues Fr. Miscamble, “reflects a failure to stand strong for Catholic teaching on marriage and on respect for life and it reveals yet again the university’s willingness to appease the dominant cultural forces of the day.”

TFP Student Action members and all faithful Catholics are invited to join together in peaceful protest. Please stand up for the truth and say “NO!” to Notre Dame’s scandalous decision to hire pro-abortion, pro-homosexual politician, Pete Buttigieg.

Restore the honor of the University of Notre Dame.
