Jesuit Georgetown Allows Pro-Abortion Student Club H*yas for Choice on Campus
Since 1991, H*yas for Choice has been allowed to promote abortion, contraception, homosexuality and transgenderism at Georgetown University, the oldest Catholic campus in the nation.
According to its web site, "H*yas for Choice (HFC) is the pro-choice, sex-positive, reproductive justice group at Georgetown University.* We are an anti-racist, queer-affirming organization working to provide sexual health options for people of all genders on Georgetown's campus."
H*yas for Choice openly attacks Catholic morality, sponsoring annual events such as Choice Week. In addition to hosting a talk by Dr. Laura Meyers, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., the "week culminated with an abortion 'story share' Friday, when members of the Georgetown community who have had abortions had the opportunity to share their experiences. Over 120 people participated," The Hoya newspaper reported.
Throughout the year, H*yas for Choice activists distribute contraceptives from a table in Red Square, a busy hub on campus, and also make them available in student dorms. The group also boasts how it managed to "distribute thousands of external/internal condoms, dental dams, and sexual lubricants each year to Georgetown University students."
Although Georgetown University claims that H*yas for Choice is not officially recognized as other student clubs are, the distinction doesn't seem to matter. In fact, the ability to undermine the right to life and promote the Culture of Death appears to be enhanced by the lack of official recognition.
“We don’t have any sort of oversight from faculty or staff, which is great because it gives us more ability to do things like this..." said Elianna Schiffrik, a H*yas for Choice communications director. “There’s pros and cons to being unrecognized.”
For the record, the Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly condemns abortion and contraception:
2370 ... every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible" is intrinsically evil...
Furthermore:
2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:
You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
Why does Georgetown allow pro-abortion activists to organize and recruit new members on campus, instead of safeguarding the right to life? While so many Catholic students struggle to defend moral values, why is Georgetown favoring those who undermine the truth and trample Church teaching? Is it too much to expect a Catholic university to take up and defend the cause of the unborn instead of catering to Planned Parenthood?
TFP Student Action invites its members and friends to join together in peaceful protest by signing a petition, urging Georgetown University's president, Dr. John J. DeGioia, to take effective and immediate measures to close down H*yas for Choice.
With or without recognition, any club that promotes the killing of innocent life or lobbies for the unnatural agenda of the homosexual movement should be barred from an institution worthy of the name Catholic.
