Petition Victory: Catholic University Pulls Planned Parenthood 'Resource'

On October 14, 2020, TFP Student Action launched a petition asking the University of San Diego, a Catholic institution in California, to remove Planned Parenthood from its website where it appeared as a “resource” for students. The listing offered “birth control and abortion.”

Shortly after the TFP petition went live, Planned Parenthood was deleted from the university’s website. The associate vice-president of university communications confirmed: “We have a long-standing position as a Catholic university not to host on campus or promote on our website Planned Parenthood. The individual who posted the content was new and not aware of our posting restriction, and the content has been removed.”

The successful TFP Student Action petition signed by 15,445 people, reads:

To: Dr. James Harris, III
President, University of San Diego

As a defender of innocent life, I respectfully urge you to permanently remove Planned Parenthood listed on the University of San Diego’s web site under “Local Resources.”

Planned Parenthood is the antithesis of wellness. Not only does the mega abortion provider rob the innocent lives of countless preborn babies, but it also unleashes the spiritual death of those involved with each procured abortion, which is a grave sin against God, the Creator of life.

Thank you for your prompt attention.

TFP Student Action thanks everyone who participated in this peaceful protest.

“I’m really grateful to everyone who signed the petition,” said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie. “When we band together and defend the right to life and fight for the future of the family, we can make a big difference.”

“Every faithful Catholic knows that procured abortion is immoral,” said Ritchie. “The University of San Diego should never point students to Planned Parenthood because the abortion provider is directly responsible for shedding innocent blood, which offends God so much.”

Although the university removed Planned Parenthood from its web site, the institution has insisted on hosting events that promote sin and betray its Catholic mission and identity.

For eight consecutive years, the university has hosted a pro-homosexual drag queen show called “PRIDE's Celebration of Gender Expression: Supreme Drag Superstar.”

The highly offensive shows included anti-Catholic activity: satanic elements, a push for "gender neutral" bathrooms on campus, pro-homosexual men dressed as “nuns” known as Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and the open promotion of "Pride" parades.

In response to this repeated and deliberate scandal, students, faculty, parents and alumni expressed their legitimate concern. TFP Student Action joined them with its own petition, which garnered more than 51,000 signatures. Catholic students held prayer vigils on campus. However, every effort to restore moral values on campus and stop the immoral drag shows met with the feckless response of university officials.

“Just as the university deleted Planned Parenthood, I really hope they will stop the in-your-face promotion of unnatural vice on campus,” Ritchie said. “We need to return to that moral code based on the Ten Commandments that made America great. Students must no longer be afraid to affirm the truth and stand up to a politically correct culture that claims there is no right and wrong."
