Pennsylvania School District Approves Satanic Event in School

Does Satanism belong in school?

The Northern York County School District approved a “back-to-school” event hosted by The Satanic Temple as part of their After School Satan Club program. The three-hour event is scheduled at Northern York High School in Dillsburg, Penn. on September 24, 2022.

Good vs. Evil

Only four months ago, the same school board had rejected a proposal to open an After-School Satan Club in the district. But more recently, the Satanic Temple received approval to rent space for a pro-satanic “back-to-school” fundraiser on school property.

Allow Evil in School?

To justify the satanic event at Northern York High School, Steve Kirkpatrick, Superintendent of Northern York School District, stated: “As a public school district, the use of our school facilities must be permitted without discrimination. We cannot and do not arbitrarily pick and choose which organizations may or may not use our facilities. If we allow one organization, we must allow all organizations.”

However, good judgment is essential to guarantee a proper environment for children, which should exclude satanic events. To protect children from the destructive influence of satanism, the school board should deliberately exclude such activities.

Back in April, TFP Student Action volunteer Evan Olwell addressed the school board, saying, “Satan has no rights because evil has no rights.”

“Some things should NOT be allowed in schools,” he said. “For example, allowing a club for neo-Nazis would be wrong, and it would be wrong to allow a club for student drug dealers… Adults have to protect children from evil, not expose them to it. Having a program in school where Satan is invoked exposes every child – directly or indirectly – to real spiritual harm.”

If the school district hopes to serve the common good and protect the children entrusted to their care, it should hold a firm line. It should use every legal and peaceful means available to exclude satanism from schools.

Appeasing the Satanists with the one-time use of school facilities will only embolden them to demand more and more access to children. The best strategy would be to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against satanism.

If schools have zero tolerance policies against drugs and adopt strict “no drug zones,” it stands to reason that “no satan zones” could also be adopted and enforced to protect children from grave spiritual harm. Drugs destroy the body, and Satanism destroys the soul. Yet, because the soul is eternal, its protection demands more care than the body.

“And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna” (Matt. 10:28).

Concessions towards evil never work. In fact, The Satanic Temple announced that it would sue the school district for not permitting them to open an After School Satan Club at Northern Elementary School in April 2022.

“We’re going to litigate against them [the district] for not allowing the After School Satan Club,” said Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple. “I think ultimately you’re going to see a lot more of our clubs in years to come, and it’s going to stop being shocking to people,” he said, according to ABC27.

On April 19, local students, parents, concerned citizens, and members of TFP Student Action attended the Northern York School Board meeting to oppose public satanism. The packed auditorium vehemently expressed a firm opposition against the proposed satan club. Many held “Say NO to the Satan Club” signs.

Wes Gessaman, an alumnus of Northern York High School, spoke at the hearing: “We know intrinsically [that] it’s bad, because God put morality on all of our hearts,” he said. “It’s immoral. It’s bad. It’s wrong.”

The auditorium applauded.

On that same occasion, the school board voted eight to one against the satan club. Days after the April school board meeting, TFP Student Action held a campaign outside the school to support the board’s good decision. This led Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple, to complain on social media, calling TFP volunteers “medieval-minded fools.”

Satan Has No Rights

The recent decision of the school board is shameful. It is never licit to give Satanism a platform. Truth and lies have nothing in common and should not be treated as equals. Therefore, granting equal rights to the father of lies is an act of self-destruction. Under no circumstances should Satan be given access to our children.

All men of good will should speak up, contact the school board, and voice their concern.
