Reparation! Our Queen Was Muzzled With a Perverse Mask
Just before May, the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a student at Marymount School of New York dishonored her statue during “Ally Week.” The sacrilege happened after four days of what The Federalist called “gender theory indoctrination” at the all-girls elite Catholic school in Manhattan.
The gender theory program was hosted by Prism, a Marymount “affinity group.” Its activities are summarized on the school’s website:
“Prism is Marymount's safe space for LGBTQ+ students, as well as an environment for allies. The group aims to increase awareness about sexuality and gender diversity within Marymount and in the greater community. Prism leads discussions and activities during Bias Awareness Day and Ally Week, which encourage acceptance, confidence, and awareness.”
Impurity vs. Purity
Prism’s program that promoted impurity and the denial of human binary biology included an event in the school’s chapel where a statue of the Mother of God was defiled with a pro-homosexual rainbow mask.
A student attending the gender theory program put the symbol of moral depravity over the mouth of the statue of the Queen of Heaven. A picture of the vile desecration was published in The Federalist.
Catholic Mission Forsaken
Marymount School was founded by Mother Marie Joseph Butler in 1926, and is one of many schools directed by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM).
According to the school’s web site, “Mother Butler founded Marymount School of New York with this vision: ‘The aims of a Marymount education are manifold: to educate the heart and mind, and to provide for each student’s total growth, intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically.’”
The school further states: “Marymount has always been guided by the RSHM mission ‘that all may have life, and have it to the full.’”
However, the noble goals of the school were betrayed.
The events favoring the LGBTQIA+ movement trample Catholic teaching. As recently as February 22, the Vatican reaffirmed the doctrine of the Church that homosexual unions are sinful, and cannot be blessed. “…it is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships, or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage (i.e., outside the indissoluble union of a man and a woman open in itself to the transmission of life), as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex.”
The statement of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith explains that “…there are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family.”
The Gravity of the Sin
To cover the mouth of Our Lady with the symbol of impurity is a heinous sacrilege.
The Catechism is clear. “2120 Sacrilege consists in profaning or treating unworthily the sacraments and other liturgical actions, as well as persons, things, or places consecrated to God.”
Using the face of the Blessed Virgin Mary to as a prop for the homosexual revolution is therefore a most serious offense against the Mother of God. It taunts Divine Justice. This act has additional gravity because it occurred at an elite school, which will have a negative influence on many schools across the nation.
The Horror of Blasphemy
The movement to normalize perversity must be resisted every step of the way, especially in Catholic institutions.
Saint Bernadine of Sienna says: “[The blasphemer] is worse than those who crucified Jesus Christ, because they did not know him to be God; but he who blasphemes knows Him to be God and insults Him face to face.”
Any offense against Our Lord is bad enough, but to attack His Holy Mother within a Catholic school where she should be honored is especially vile. What Son would not be outraged at such an act against His Mother?
TFP Student Action invites you to console Our Lord and Our Lady. We must rise up and make reparation to God for Marymount’s twofold attack against God: normalizing unnatural vice and defiling the statue of Mary. As Catholics who sorrow at seeing their Mother abused, TFP Student Action urges the school to issue a formal apology for allowing such an egregious sacrilege to occur.
