Jesuit University Invites Male “Trans” Activist to Talk About “Womanhood”
Saint Louis University’s Great Issues Committee, a student-run program, invited transvestite activist Dylan Mulvaney (a man) to lecture students on “womanhood.” The event was hosted at the Jesuit campus ballroom on April 22, 2024.
Mulvaney has been in the spotlight before. In April 2023, Bud Light featured him in a beer ad. The move riled customers who boycotted the company. As a result, the beer maker lost billions of dollars.
Mulvaney’s appearance at Saint Louis University is prompting deserved outrage. Young America’s Foundation pointed out the hypocrisy of allowing him to speak on campus when the conservative commentator Matt Walsh was forced out of the same venue.
According to Campus Reform at Leadership Institute, Saint Louis University denied the College Republicans on campus permission to host a counter-event the day after Mr. Mulvaney’s pro-transgender talk. Tolerance for leftists is a one-way street. It always has been. However, for a Catholic institution to give error and immorality a platform is incredibly scandalous.
No Catholic university should invite a transvestite activist who mocks God’s order to speak on campus. Such a decision undermines Catholic morality and basic biology.
Transgenderism is Contrary to God’s Plan
“And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them” (Gen. 1:27).
“Transgenders” claim that they were born in the wrong body and that their “true” identity does not correspond to the way that God made them. Such a claim is equivalent to saying that God made a mistake. However, “transgender” surgery does not change a person’s sex but only manipulates appearances, as a more radical form of cross-dressing, which the Church and Sacred Scripture condemn: “A woman shall not be clothed with man's apparel, neither shall a man use woman's apparel: for he that doeth these things is abominable before God” (Deut. 22:5).
Transgenderism is Contrary to Biology
Furthermore, transgenderism contradicts basic biology. Sex is binary: XX chromosomes for females or XY chromosomes for males.
The American College of Pediatricians is clear: “Human sexuality is an objective biological binary trait: ‘XY’ and ‘XX’ are genetic markers of health—not genetic markers of a disorder. The norm for human design is to be conceived either male or female. Human sexuality is binary by design with the obvious purpose being the reproduction and flourishing of our species. This principle is self-evident…. Individuals with DSDs [disorders of sex development] do not constitute a third sex.”
By denying the reality of human nature, transgenderism denies the Ultimate Truth from Whom all truth flows: God.
Let us pray to Saint Louis IX, the holy Crusader King and patron of the university. May he obtain graces before the throne of God to restore the soul of Catholic higher education, especially on Jesuit campuses.
