Victory: Sinful Drag Event Canceled at Seton Hall University

In late March, concerned students launched a peaceful rosary rally for the cancelation of a sinful Drag Queen bingo event scheduled at Seton Hall University, a Catholic university affiliated with Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey.

Prayers were answered: the immoral event was canceled. Despite the cancelation, Catholic students on campus decided to go ahead with their original plan to hold a rosary rally of reparation. Their victorious rosary rally of thanksgiving took place on April 8 at 6:00 PM.

Scandalous Event Canceled

It is bad enough when secular colleges allow events that destroy moral values. However, it is a greater offense against God when a Catholic university permits the promotion of sin masquerading as entertainment.

Instead of defending the Catholic identity of the university, the Student Government Association issued a statement suggesting that the drag event was somehow in keeping with Seton Hall’s Catholic identity and mission.

“As part of its Catholic identity,” the liberal statement reads, “Seton Hall celebrates religious diversity and actively empowers students from all backgrounds. Seton Hall states as part of its Catholic mission that it is ‘a home for people of all faiths.’ Those that don't identify as Catholic should never be made to feel alienated or that they don't belong.”

In plain language, sinful events don’t belong on a Catholic campus. Immoral activities that promote sin should be excluded. Because it’s impossible to serve two masters. We either serve God and follow His Commandments or we submit to the yoke of the world and its evil ways.

Victory for Moral Values

Plans for a rosary rally came together. And a cadre of students, local Catholics, and TFP Student Action volunteers processed around the campus carrying a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, praying the rosary and singing Marian hymns accompanied by a TFP bagpiper.

Their prayers were answered. The drag bingo event did not take place.

The small “band of brothers” victoriously marched through the main green and past the cafeteria, ending on the steps of the chapel with the recitation of the Litany of Loreto.

Several students made obscene gestures at the peaceful prayerful procession while many others made the sign of the Cross with devotion as Our Lady passed.

Not dismayed, the young Catholics proclaimed “Viva Cristo Rey!” They also invoked many saints, including St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the university’s patroness.

Diversity Is Not Perversity

Students attending the rally were joyful. “There’s no place for degeneracy at this campus,” said one. “That is why I am here.”

One student was moved to tears at the news of the victory. Another thanked TFP volunteers for helping the effort to promote Catholic morals in higher education: “You truly helped make this rally a catalyst for change at the university.”

Catholic institutions must uphold Catholic teaching. Authentic diversity should never be used as a ploy to promote perversity and sin.

Pray for Catholic students as they suffer scorn, laughter, and even persecution on Catholic campuses for following the law of God and remaining faithful to the Church’s traditional moral teaching.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
