Everyone can agree: We have a burning immigration crisis in America. Never have so many crossed the border illegally, and never has the government appeared so unwilling to resolve the problem. As the immigration debate continues, many think that the Catholic Church’s position is one of unconditional charity: no limits, no walls, and no borders. But is that really the case? What does the Bible say about immigration? What does Saint Thomas Aquinas say? Can a medieval Saint solve a modern problem? Well, he does. In his masterpiece, the Summa Theologica, Saint Thomas has gems of wisdom that apply to the national immigration policy debate today. Saint Thomas says: “Man’s relations with foreigners are twofold: peaceful, and hostile: and in directing both kinds of relation the Law contained suitable precepts.” Saint Thomas affirms that not all immigrants are equal. Every nation has the right to decide which immigrants are beneficial, that is, “peaceful,” to the common good. As a matter of self- defense, the State can reject criminals, traitors, enemies and others who it deems harmful to its citizens. The second thing he affirms is that the manner of dealing with immigration is determined by law in the cases of both beneficial and “hostile” immigration. The State has the right and duty to apply its law. Saint Thomas continues: “For the Jews were offered three opportunities of peaceful relations with foreigners. First, when foreigners passed through their land as travelers. Secondly, when they came to dwell in their land as newcomers. And in both these respects the Law made kind provision in its precepts: for it is written, ‘Thou shalt not molest a stranger’” (Exodus 22:21). Saint Thomas says: “Thirdly, when any foreigners wished to be admitted entirely to their fellowship and mode of worship. With regard to these a certain order was observed. For they were not at once admitted to citizenship: just as it was law with some nations that no one was deemed a citizen except after two or three generations, as the Philosopher says (Polit. iii, 1).” Saint Thomas continues: “The reason for this was that if foreigners were allowed to meddle with the affairs of a nation as soon as they settled down in its midst, many dangers might occur, since the foreigners not yet having the common good firmly at heart might attempt something hurtful to the people.” These are some of the thoughts of Saint Thomas Aquinas on immigration based on biblical principles. It’s clear that good immigration policy has two things in mind: First, the nation’s unity; and second, the common good. Immigration should have as its goal integration, not disintegration or segregation. Good immigrants not only desire benefits but they assume the responsibilities of joining into the full fellowship of the nation. By becoming a citizen, a person becomes part of a broader family and not just a shareholder with short-term self-interest. Saint Thomas teaches that immigration must have the common good in mind; it cannot destroy or overwhelm a nation.This explains why so many Americans are uneasy with the flood of mass immigration, flawed catch and release policies, and porous borders. Such bad policy destroys common points of unity and overwhelms the ability of a society to absorb new elements organically into a unified culture. The common good is no longer considered. A proportional immigration can be healthy for society because it injects new life and qualities into a social body. But when it loses that proportion and undermines the purpose of the State, it threatens the well-being of the nation. We should follow the advice of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The nation must practice justice and charity towards all, including foreigners, but it must above all safeguard the common good and its unity. What's the solution?

It sounds too good to be true, but there’s a city in the world that has a zero divorce rate. And near the end of this video, you will see the successful formula that has kept marriages together for generations. More than a formula, it’s a beautiful prayer and a profound Catholic culture that can help restore the family today. In the U.S., the divorce rate is staggering. Close to 50% of marriages fall apart. On top of that, there are illicit unions, couples that shack up, not to mention same-sex counterfeit unions that masquerade as marriage. The family is under attack. And moral values have been torn to bits. But — lo and behold! — despite the moral crisis, there’s a city where the marriage bond is so strong that there’s no record of divorce. The city is Siroki-Brijeg located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city’s 26,000 inhabitants of Croatian origin are familiar with adversity. They had to defend their Catholic Faith during the Muslim invasion in the 15th Century. Their Faith was tested again when the country fell under the boot of atheistic communism. Trusted sources report that, “Siroki-Brijeg is remarkable … for in the collective memory of all there has never been a single divorce among the Croatian Catholics of the city.” How do you explain such a remarkable thing? First, the population of the city is almost 100% Catholic, and they live their faith seriously. They consider it a point of honor to defend the indissolubility of marriage and the monogamous family. That means marriage is the sacred union between a man and a woman—as stated in the country’s Constitution. However, what marks this profound religious attitude is that they see marriage as a cross, united with the Cross of Christ. This helps the spouses live their union without romanticism, false expectations, or whimsical illusions. Realistically, we live in a valley of tears. Everyone has defects. And there’s no mutual understanding without the mutual exercise of patience. This Catholic understanding of marriage is what prevents divorce and separations. However, this attitude of fidelity is expressed in a beautiful custom. During their married life, the spouses find strength by praying together before the crucifix, a special crucifix they receive on their wedding day. In the wedding ceremony, the priest blesses the crucifix presented by the bride and groom. He places the bride’s right hand on the crucifix, then that of the groom upon hers, and covers them with a stole. The couple then makes their vows with their hands clasping the crucifix. The priest tells them they have found the ideal “partner” with whom they must share their lives. He says: “You have found your cross! It is a cross that you must love and take with you every day of your lives. Know how to appreciate it.” After kissing the cross, the spouses enthrone it in their home. When trials, misunderstandings, disagreements and difficulties common to all marriages arise, both spouses kneel before the crucifix and with unwavering faith ask for strength to endure them, because Our Lord’s yoke “is easy, and His burden, light.” This attitude is consistent with the belief that the cross will give them strength to overcome their daily trials. The spouses are aware that if one abandons the other, they will abandon Christ. And the source of perseverance comes from the Cross of Christ rather than external factors. The children of these strong unions learn how to venerate the family crucifix and direct their early prayers to the cross. As a result, all of my signs have been destroyed.” Although Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., is the oldest Catholic university in the nation, the climate on campus does not favor Catholic teaching or foster respect for the fundamental human right to life. Recently, three pro-life signs posted in the free speech area known as Red Square were vandalized. These signs read: "Abortion is a sin." "Real Catholics oppose abortion." "Abortion is not healthcare." This incident is not the first one, as similar signs put up by Fabrizio, promoting God's marriage and featuring a quote from the Catholic catechism, were also torn down within seconds in the same area last year. "You would expect a straightforward Catholic message to be accepted on a Catholic campus. But, regrettably, the truth is no longer welcome. If a Planned Parenthood sign or a rainbow flag were removed from the same location, what would be the consequences?" asked Fabrizio. “Unfortunately, the culture of death has infiltrated even Catholic institutions. But the truth still stands: Being Catholic and pro-abortion is impossible, Fabrizio continued. “Abortion is a grave sin against God because it kills an innocent human person.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.” Despite the hostile climate on campus, Fabrizio says more students are motivated to restore family values. “The truth is always attractive. In this video, TFP debates every woke leftist they meet at Boston University. Few things are more exhilarating than promoting the truth in a city like Boston. With pure logic and cold facts, TFP Student Action members challenged socialism, Marxism, and communism. The TFP banner, “May God Protect America from Socialism,” and leaflets titled “10 Reasons to Reject Socialism” prompted lively conversations and debates. Private property rights and the advantages of an organic Christian society were at the center of the discussions. However, leftists peddled utopian lies and outright anarchy. Leftist: “What do you think about free health care?” TFP: “Healthcare is a Catholic institution. Doctors need more than just a fair wage. They need virtue and a true love for their patient. That is why monks and nuns cared so much for their patients because they saw the image of God in each one. When society was Catholic, healthcare was free. The Catholic Church invented healthcare.” The Church also invented universities, public schooling, and hospitals, institutions that socialism seeks to control and destroy under the guise of making them “free” and “equal” for all. Just look at the prison island called Cuba, or the devastation ravaging Venezuela. When did free speech die at Georgetown? Although the official date free speech died is yet to be determined by forensic experts and a competent coroner, TFP Student Action volunteers verified that the freedom to repeat basic Catholic teaching is no longer alive at the oldest Catholic university in the nation. “I witnessed the death of free speech after I posted two signs on the free speech wall at Georgetown,” lamented TFP volunteer Jon Paul Fabrizio. “One of my signs stated: ‘God’s marriage = 1 man + one woman.’ The other sign quoted the Catechism of the Catholic Church: ‘Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.’” Both signs were ripped down seconds after they had been put up. “Acceptance and inclusion are promoted everywhere,” said Mr. Fabrizio. “But at Jesuit Georgetown, the truth is not included, not welcomed, and not accepted. I can only imagine what would happen if a rainbow flag was ripped down. But pride flags are celebrated on campus, and basic Catholic teaching is censored.” True freedom thrives in a framework of virtue. However, when virtue is mocked, and God’s Ten Commandments are scorned, the upright exercise of freedom is jeopardized. Dismissing the truth creates conditions for relativism and secularism to thrive, which eventually leads to a dictatorship of disorder and sin. Last month, Georgetown University Lecture Fund hosted leaders of the Satanic Temple, Lucien Greaves and Malcolm Jarry, to speak on campus. Somehow, the satanic speakers fit the objective of the Lecture Fund to “enlighten” and “educate” students. “While God’s truth is scorned at Georgetown, the door for evil appears to be wide open,” Mr. Fabrizio said. “The best way to turn things around is to heed Our Lady of Fatima’s message of conversion. Doing what Our Lady asked – prayer, penance, and amendment of life – is the way to restore Catholic higher learning and the moral fabric of our nation.” With renewed fidelity, TFP Student Action invites faithful Catholics to face the present crisis by trusting in God’s grace, embracing the Cross, and proclaiming the truth. LGBT advocates poured coffee on them, defaced pro-family banners and signs, destroyed private property, and sprayed them in the face with toxic paint. -- “The paint hit me in the eyes and burned for about six hours,” said TFP volunteer Rex Teodosio. -- “She spray painted my face too,” explains Joseph Scordato. -- On camera, one pro-homosexual individual yells: “I hope you (expletive) die, you Christian fascist (expletive). You will die a lonely death.” Schools and libraries that give children access to explicit content, including pro-transgender books and Drag Queen Story Hours, have stirred a national debate. “There’s nothing more precious than the innocence of our children,” said Rex Teodosio, leader of the TFP group touring the Midwest. “But unfortunately, too many public schools and libraries have turned into dens of sin where minors are fed outrageous, inappropriate, and immoral material,” he said. “That’s why we decided to launch this peaceful campaign to protect the innocence of our children.” “Getting hit in the face with spray paint is not pleasant. My eyes are stinging, inflamed and bloodshot,” Teodosio said. “The attacker yelled ‘bigot’ and ‘hater’ as she destroyed our signs and ruined our clothes with paint -- she played the victim as she committed the crime. But the sacrifice is all worth it because I know I’m building a culture that protects the innocence of children and shields them from grooming and corruption.” In the video, TFP volunteers are heard chanting “aggressor” as the assault occurred. Although the attacker fled, three police officers arrived to inspect the damage and confirm that the perpetrator was caught. “We want to press charges,” said Rex Teodosio. “I see a troubling pattern at work. At first, the homosexual movement just wanted tolerance,” Teodosio explained. “Moving beyond tolerance, they radically redefined marriage. Then they demanded that everyone celebrate pride. And now they want lewd drag shows for 4-year-old children. Will this radical agenda morph into full-blown tyranny? Will the criminalization of Christianity come next?” Teodosio concluded: “Our team is motivated. Our cause is noble.
