Gonzaga University to Host Sacrilegious Lavender Mass
On November 19, 2026, Gonzaga University, a Catholic institution of higher learning, plans to host a pro-homosexual “Lavender Mass.” The university describes the Mass as a “celebration at Gonzaga University focused on affirming and supporting LGBTQ+ campus community members through faith.”
The sacrilegious event is organized in collaboration with the Lincoln LGBTQ+ Resource Center, a university organization dedicated to “developing and sustaining Gonzaga University as a safe and welcoming community for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions by engaging in education, advocacy, outreach, and programming.”
Using the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to celebrate and affirm mortal sin at Gonzaga University causes grave scandal, especially among Catholic students.
Public Scandal
The term “Lavender” has long been associated with homosexuality and has subsequently become a symbol of the LGBT movement and its revolt against God.
Gonzaga University itself explains that a “Lavender Mass is scheduled each year near or on National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBTQ+ awareness day observed on October 11, which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people being empowered to live openly and authentically.”
The Catholic Position
The Catechism of the Catholic Church is clear. Homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered” and “contrary to the natural law” (CCC 2357).
However, dissident voices within the Church are attempting to eliminate every warning against unnatural vice, neglecting the fact that Christ said “Go and sin no more” (John 8:11). Our Lord also affirms marriage between one man and one woman. “Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh” (Matt. 19:4–5).
Indeed, marriage is the sacred and unique union between one man and one woman.
Christ's command to love one's neighbor can never be separated from the obligation to lead one's neighbor away from sin. Genuine charity does not consist in affirming a person in conduct that is contrary to God's law, but in willing that person's true good, which ultimately means union with God.
Mockery of the Mass
The most troubling aspect of this event is its sacrilegious and blasphemous attack against the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Mass is the unbloody sacrifice of the body and blood of Christ, offered in atonement for our sins. To associate the true Mass with the public affirmation of unnatural vice turns the sacred liturgy into something fundamentally opposed to the very nature of the Mass.
Why is a Catholic institution allowing the Mass to be hijacked to promote the homosexual movement? Why is Gonzaga “affirming” a movement that is redefining the sacred institution of marriage and undermining the foundation of the family according to God’s design?
For faithful Catholics, there is only one response to this abject scandal: Holy indignation, reparation, and peaceful protest. The so-called Lavender Mass must be stopped and never take place again in the future. Furthermore, public reparation to God, proportional to the offense, must be done.
Gonzaga University bears the name of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, the renowned patron saint of heroic purity. May he inspire more Catholic students to imitate his heroic example and assist them in ending the blasphemous Lavender Mass on campus.
