News Release: Catholic Campus Featuring Planned Parenthood Sparks Protest

San Diego, CA, October 22, 2020: The Catholic University of San Diego is under fire for featuring abortion provider Planned Parenthood on its website as a “resource” for students. The entry offers “birth control and abortion.”

Pro-life advocates are upset about the listing and young Catholics with TFP Student Action have launched a peaceful protest, urging university president Dr. James Harris to remove Planned Parenthood from the campus website.

“Everyone knows what Planned Parenthood does,” said TFP Student Action director John Ritchie. “Not only is it the largest abortion provider in the nation, but it feeds the godless culture of death that keeps the abortion cycle running.

Planned Parenthood is the antithesis of Catholic moral teaching and natural law and should have no place in Catholic education.”

The University of San Diego’s listing of Planned Parenthood appears to conflict with its mission statement, which embraces “Catholic moral and social tradition” and works “for justice.”

The contradiction is apparent to Ritchie: “Procured abortion is always unjust, and good Catholics never favor or support it. That’s why it’s hard for me to believe that a university dedicated to true justice would point students to Planned Parenthood, a place where innocent unborn babies are snuffed out and dismembered every day.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church is clear: “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”

Furthermore, Catholic teaching has remained constant for 2,000 years. “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable.”

TFP Student Action invites pro-life Americans to sign its petition, calling the University of San Diego to remove Planned Parenthood from its web site permanently.

“In the name of ‘choice,’ Planned Parenthood kills about 300,000 babies a year,” said Ritchie. “To put that into perspective, the death toll caused by Planned Parenthood is equivalent to one hundred 9/11 terrorist attacks. So, just as we mourn the tragic loss of 2,977 lives on 9/11, we should also mourn, oppose, and strive to prevent the barbaric slaughter of innocent babies inside these clinics.”

“Real Catholics never support the sin of abortion,” Ritchie said.
