Catholic School Hires “Queer” and “Non-Binary” Dance Teacher (Please Protest)
Salesian College Preparatory school in Richmond, California, issued a shocking announcement to parents and students, welcoming a self-declared “queer” dance teacher in its e-newsletter:
“KJ Dahlaw… joins us from ODC, East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, and the Berkeley YMCA to teach Dance I and Dance II.”
According to her bio published on artsreligionculture.org, the dance teacher challenges the way God created human nature: male and female. “KJ Dahlaw is a queer and non-binary identified dance artist.”
The bio continues:
“KJ …has been busy ...tending to the fires of queer love and teaching dance.” (Author’s emphasis)
Furthermore, as California Catholic Daily reports, Dahlaw’s dance studio defines itself as a project “designed to disrupt the logic of hegemony in the Body, oriented towards a queer futurity” which includes neo-pagan “eco-somatic dance.”
The fact that this Catholic high school has hired such an individual defies reason. It is scandalous to have someone on staff -- interacting with young students -- who lives and promotes a life contrary to Catholic teaching and values.
Anyone actively involved in pushing the harmful ideology of “queer theory” on students should never be allowed to teach at a Catholic school. Indeed, the choice of a pro-LGBT teacher not only appears to be a slap against St. John Bosco’s holy legacy but also a violation of the school’s mission statement:
“Salesian College Preparatory is a Catholic school that educates young men and women to develop into good citizens for the betterment of society and the glory of God. Salesian combines the elements of church, school, playground, and home in a supportive and caring environment, in accordance with St. John Bosco’s educational philosophy of reason, religion and loving kindness.

Taking a Principled not a Personal Stand
As practicing Catholics, we are filled with compassion and pray for those who struggle against violent temptation to sin, be it toward homosexual sin or otherwise.
We are conscious of the enormous difference between these individuals who struggle with their weaknesses and strive to overcome them and others who transform their sin into a reason for pride, and try to impose their lifestyle on society as a whole, in flagrant opposition to traditional Christian morality and natural law. However, we pray for them too.
According to the expression attributed to Saint Augustine, we “hate the sin but love the sinner.” And to love the sinner, as the same Doctor of the Church explains, is to wish for him the best we can possibly desire for ourselves, namely, “that he may love God with a perfect affection.” (St. Augustine, Of the Morals of the Catholic Church, No. 49, www.newadvent.org/fathers/1401.htm)
