School Cancels Catholic Teacher Over Crucifix: Sign Protest

Mrs. Marisol Arroyo-Castro, a 7th grade teacher at DiLoreto Elementary in New Britain, Connecticut, was ordered to remove a small crucifix she’s displayed in her classroom for 10 years. School officials deemed it inappropriate.

Despite being threatened with disciplinary action, she refused to remove the crucifix, which was taken down, and she was suspended.

Stand with Mrs. Arroyo-Castro as she defends her right to display the Cross of Christ in her workspace at school. Tell the Consolidated School District of New Britain reinstate her.

Dear Dr. Gasper,

I stand in full support of Mrs. Marisol Arroyo-Castro and her refusal to comply with the unjust order to remove the crucifix near her desk. Her decision is both principled and courageous, especially in light of the treatment she has faced from certain faculty members at DiLoreto Elementary & Middle School.

It is deeply concerning that Mrs. Castro has been unjustly persecuted for displaying a small crucifix that has been part of her workspace for the past ten years. I am particularly disturbed by Principal Soto’s comment, instructing her not to "worship idols," as the crucifix is not an idol.

I respectfully urge you to reinstate Mrs. Castro, allow her to keep her crucifix, and issue an apology for the undue persecution of her Catholic Faith.
