Prof. John McAdams, Marquette University

TFP Student Action invites you to join its campaign of moral support for Prof. John McAdams, a tenured professor at the Jesuit-run Marquette University who was suspended for voicing his agreement with Catholic teaching regarding the topic of natural marriage.

Background

Fact #1: This is not academic freedom

Catholic students at Marquette University are no longer free to oppose homosexual "marriage." According to Fox News, teaching assistant Cheryl Abbate told a Marquette philosophy student who wanted to defend traditional marriage: “You don’t have a right in this class to make homophobic comments.”

Fact #2: Prof. McAdams Speaks Up

Prof. John McAdams defended the philosophy student's free speech right to speak in favor of God-ordained marriage on his blog. “Like the rest of academia, Marquette is less and less a real university,” he stated. “When gay marriage cannot be discussed -- certainly not a Catholic university.”

Fact #3: Suspended & Banned

On December 16, Prof. McAdams was placed under investigation, suspended and banned from campus. “You are relieved of all teaching duties and all other faculty activities,” stated Dean Richard Holz in a letter to McAdams. “You are to remain off campus during this time.”

Fact #4: Political Correctness = Persecution

Prof. McAdams, who has taught at Marquette for 37 years, told Fox News: “It would be odd to be charged with harassing someone by reporting something accurately on my blog. A lot of politically correct faculty have wanted my head on a pike.”

Fact #5: Marquette Allows Pro-Homosexual Agenda

While teaching assistant Cheryl Abatte was quick to muzzle the Catholic voice of reason and faith concerning the sanctity of marriage, pro-homosexual propaganda is given a prominent platform from which to spread its immoral agenda. For example, Marquette features three pro-homosexual, officially sanctioned groups on its web site: Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning & Allies, and Diversity Advocates.

There is more. Favoring the homosexual movement, Marquette's online Career Services Center features a list of numerous links that contradict the identity and mission of a Catholic university. On that list one finds, among others, the Human Rights Campaign, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, LGBT CareerLink, ProGay Jobs, and LGBT Jobs, which offers "paid opportunities to work for LGBT equality."

When Wisconsin's marriage amendment -- that protected true marriage -- was deemed "unconstitutional" and struck down by an activist federal district court Judge earlier this year, Marquette professor Lisa A. Mazzie celebrated. Addressing same-sex couples on the faculty blog of Marquette University Law School, she wrote: "Congratulations to those newly wed this weekend, and to those whose legal marriages elsewhere are now recognized as legal here."

How ironic. Prof. McAdams was suspended for favoring Catholic teaching on his private blog yet Prof. Mazzie was not suspended for contradicting Catholic teaching on the university's official blog.

It is especially disturbing to see this sad situation unfold at a Catholic university such as Marquette. The spiritual enemy is within the walls, spreading sin, confusion and error.

That's why I hope you'll take a moment to sign your message of support for Prof. McAdams. Your voice will encourage him and help many more Catholic teachers and students to hold the line and continue defending God's law.

Help us collect 20,000 messages of support today. You don't need to be a student to participate. Thank you for standing up for the truth. Thank you for defending true marriage. And thank you for fighting the good fight.
